Do wood ornaments last longer than glass ones?
They survive storage a great deal better. A wood ornament can be dropped, packed under something heavier, or handled by a child without shattering, and that is where most glass ornaments are lost. What wood does not tolerate is damp, so an attic or a garage that swells and dries out year after year will warp a thin wood piece and lift the ink off it. Keep them in a dry closet inside the house and they will come out fine for decades.

How big is this ornament, and what is on the back?
About 4 inches across, cut in the shape of a sand dollar, with a plain white back. Four inches is bigger than a standard ball ornament, which is what makes the map on the front readable from across a room rather than a detail you have to walk up to. The inks are high-definition and printed straight onto the wood, so there is no decal edge to lift at the rim. It hangs from a jute rope and carries a small pearl charm.
