How do you wash corduroy without flattening it?

Inside out, cold, and out of the dryer before it is bone dry. Corduroy is a pile fabric, meaning the ridges are raised loops of yarn, and what crushes them is heat plus the weight of the fabric pressing on itself in a hot drum. Turning it inside out keeps the pile from rubbing against everything else in the load. Hang it while it is still slightly damp and the wales lift back up on their own. Keep the iron off the right side.

Should you size up in an oversized jacket?

Usually not. An oversized cut already has the extra room drawn into the pattern, through the chest, the shoulder and the body, so taking a size up mostly lengthens the sleeve and drops the shoulder seam further down your arm than it was meant to sit. The thing to check is whether a sweater fits underneath without straining the front. If it does, stay at your usual size. Dropped shoulders in particular look wrong once the seam lands near your elbow.

What is this jacket made of, and what does garment-washed mean?

It is 100% cotton in a wide-wale corduroy, and garment-washed means it was laundered after it was sewn rather than sold stiff off the bolt. That is why it feels broken in the first time you put it on: the wash has already done the softening, and most of the shrinking that would otherwise happen in your machine. Wide-wale means the ridges are broad rather than fine, which is where the weight comes from. It snaps closed at a point collar, and our model wears a size S at 5'9".

Hallelu's private label is a collaboration with designers across the USA, and most of our clothing comes out of Los Angeles. Do you carry petite or plus sizes?
