Questions about this piece
What is faux fur made of?
Synthetic fiber, usually acrylic, modacrylic or polyester, knitted into a backing and then brushed and cut so the pile stands up. How soft it feels comes down to how fine those fibers are and how densely they sit, not to whatever animal the pile is imitating. It also behaves like a synthetic rather than a hide: there is no leather underside to dry out, but heat will flatten or melt the pile, so a hot dryer ruins it permanently. The outside of this vest is faux fur, and that pile is what you are looking after.
What do you wear under a faux fur vest?
Something with a narrow sleeve. A vest piles bulk across the chest and shoulders and leaves your arms bare, so a slim sleeve or a fine knit keeps the arm reading narrow against all that pile. A full sleeve, a ruffle or a heavy cable fights the armhole for the same space, and you end up wider than you are. A fitted long-sleeve top, a crisp blouse or a close sweater are the three that work under this one.
How do you clean this vest?
Dry clean only, so it never goes in the machine. That is less of a burden on a sleeveless piece than it sounds: with no sleeve, the fur never sits against your underarm the way a coat does, so it comes through a lot of wear before it needs anything done to it. In between, hang it with space on either side instead of pressed among coats, because crushed pile is what sends faux fur to the cleaner early. It comes in the one color, taupe, in XS through L.
