What is a cleansing milk?
A cream cleanser that works by dissolving rather than foaming. Instead of surfactants that lift oil and take some of your own lipids along with it, a milk uses emulsifiers and soft oils to loosen makeup and grime, which you then rinse or wipe away. The trade is that it feels less dramatic, with no lather and no squeak afterward, and for skin that reacts to being stripped that is exactly the point. It is also the easier of the two to use on a face that is already irritated.
Does a cream cleanser take off mascara?
Most of it, if you give it time on dry skin. Cream and oil-based cleansers break down water-resistant makeup by dissolving it, and dissolving takes roughly thirty seconds of contact, which is why people who go straight to the tap decide a cleanser does not work on eyes. Work it in with dry fingers over dry skin, let it sit, then take it off with a warm damp cloth. For a heavy waterproof mascara you may still want a second pass.
