Questions about this piece
What do you wear with mules?
Hems that stop short of your foot. A mule has no back, so the line of your leg ends at the shoe rather than disappearing into it, and that only reads if the shoe is visible: cropped pants, ankle jeans, a midi skirt or a dress all do it. Full-length hems that break across the top of the foot cover the part that makes a mule a mule. On this pair that is where the black piping and the gold-tone dome hardware sit, so it is worth keeping them in view.
Do leather shoes stretch out over time?
They do, but only in one direction. Leather gives across the width as it warms and takes the shape of your foot, so a shoe that is snug over the widest part will usually ease; it does not get longer, so a shoe that is short in the toe stays short. Buy for length first and let the width settle. That applies here, since the upper is leather and the two straps are what sit across the widest part of the foot.
How high is the heel on these mules?
Two and a half inches, on a covered block heel. The block is what makes that height wearable: your weight lands on a wide flat base instead of a point, so it does not sink into soft ground or wobble on brick. It is also enough lift to keep a long pant hem off the ground, which is the difference between wearing these to walk somewhere and only wearing them once you are there.
