Questions about this piece
How do you know if a maxi skirt is the right length?
It should clear the floor by an inch or so in the shoes you actually plan to wear it with. Maxi lengths are cut to an average height, so the same skirt reads ankle-length on one person and drags on another, and a hem that sweeps the ground will fray along the back within a season. Try it in flats and in a heel before deciding whether to take it up, because most people only ever wear a maxi with one or the other.
What top goes with a fitted maxi skirt?
Something that ends at or above the waistband. A long skirt already runs the full length of you, so an untucked top laid over it erases your waist and leaves one unbroken column of fabric from shoulder to floor. A tucked shirt, a cropped knit or a fitted tank each put a line back in. If you want something loose on top, tuck just the front of it and leave the rest hanging.
Is this skirt lined, and how does the waist fasten?
It is lined to just above the knee, so the top half is backed and the bottom half is a single layer. That is worth knowing given the crochet-knit panels worked into it: the open texture is on view from the knee down, where the design is meant to be seen, and covered where you would want it covered. The waist is a ribbed knit elastic band with no zip or button, so it pulls on. The fabric is 100% polyester, in Pine and Taupe.
