Questions about this piece
Can you wear a lace dress to a daytime wedding?
Lace is one of the safer choices for one. It reads dressed up without needing a sequin or a sheen, and at midi length it stays on the right side of formal for an afternoon. The one thing worth checking is the color against the bride's. Cream is close enough to white that a quick message to whoever is hosting is worth sending before you commit, and if the answer comes back fine, cream lace in daylight is about as right as it gets for that kind of day.
What is the difference between a midi and a maxi dress?
Where the hem stops. A midi ends somewhere between the knee and the ankle, most often around mid-calf, while a maxi runs all the way to the ankle or the floor. The practical difference is your shoes. A maxi covers them, so you can wear whatever is comfortable under there and nobody is any the wiser; a midi puts the whole shoe and your ankle on show, which makes the shoe part of the outfit. This one is cut as a midi, so pick the shoes with it rather than after it.
Does this lace have any give to it?
It does. The lace is a knit rather than a woven, made in polyester with spandex, so the floral pattern stretches a little as you move instead of holding one fixed shape across the back and shoulders. Under it sits a polyester lining, and that solid layer is what sets how the dress falls over the hip. The lace follows it rather than the other way around.
