Questions about this piece
What is the difference between a jumpsuit and a romper?
Leg length, and that is essentially the whole of it. A romper stops at the thigh, like shorts sewn to a top; a jumpsuit carries the leg down toward the ankle. The construction is the same one-piece idea, so what changes is how much leg shows and how dressy it reads, with a romper leaning playful and a jumpsuit leaning put-together. This one is a jumpsuit, cut in a full-length leg, which is why it works for dinner as easily as for a Saturday.
Is a jumpsuit hard to get in and out of?
It depends on where the opening sits. A back zipper is the awkward kind, because you need two hands behind you at both ends of the day. Anything that pulls on over your head or steps on from the floor is simple, and most jumpsuits are built that way. The back of this one is smocked, so there is stretch built into the one place you most need it while you are getting in.
How do the straps and the back work on this one?
The straps are thin and the back is smocked, and the two go together. Smocking gathers the fabric onto rows of elastic, so the back grips you on its own and the straps are not holding the whole jumpsuit up, which is what lets them stay that narrow. It also means one size covers a little more than usual; this runs S, M and L. Below the waist it runs full length in a tiered wide leg, so standing still it reads much like a skirt. The print is navy and cream.
