What is houndstooth?
A two-color check with broken, pointed corners instead of square ones, and those little jagged shapes are what give it the name. Scale changes it completely. A fine houndstooth blurs into a solid from across a room, while a larger one stays graphic and still reads as a pattern from a distance. It is a classic rather than a trend, which is why it comes back every fall without looking either new or dated. This one runs brown and black on a smooth woven polyester.
What pants go with a cropped jacket?
Anything that sits at or above your natural waist. A cropped jacket ends around the waistband, so a high rise meets it and the two read as one line, while a lower rise leaves a band of shirt showing in between that you end up fussing with all day. Width is the other lever, since an oversized jacket is easier over a straight or slim leg than over something equally full. Does this jacket zip all the way up?
It does. A full-length zipper runs the whole front, under a structured spread collar, and that collar is what makes closing it worth doing: zipped to the top it stands up and covers the base of your neck, which on a cropped jacket is the only extra coverage you are going to get. Left open it falls back into a lapel. The cut is oversized with dropped shoulders, and our model is 5'7.5" in a Small. It comes in Small through Large in the brown.
