Questions about this piece
What is the difference between a devotional and a Bible study?
A devotional is a short daily reading meant to build a habit, usually a passage, a few paragraphs of reflection, and often a prompt or a prayer. A Bible study works the other direction, taking one book or theme and digging into context and cross-references over weeks. Plenty of people run one of each, the study for depth and the devotional for the days in between. This one is a 40-day devotional, so it is built for the daily side.
How do you stick with a daily devotional?
Attach it to something you already do every day. A devotional reading takes a few minutes, so the hard part is remembering rather than finding time, and people who keep it going tie it to coffee, the drive in, or the last ten minutes before bed, and leave the book sitting where that happens. A set number of days helps too, because an end date is easier to aim at than every day from now on. This one runs 40 days.
How long is this devotional, and who is it written for?
Forty days, one entry at a time, which puts the last page a little under six weeks out, long enough to build a habit and short enough to see the end from the first day. It is by Allison Rager, and the subtitle is Living for Christ as a Female Athlete, so it is pointed at someone in the middle of training and competing rather than at a general reader.
