Questions about this piece
What is French terry, and is it warmer than fleece?
French terry is a knit with a smooth face and soft loops of yarn left on the inside, where fleece takes those same loops and brushes them up into a fuzzy nap. The brushing is what traps air, so fleece is the warmer of the two and French terry is the lighter, more breathable one, which is why it works on a cool morning and still works once the day warms up. It also drapes instead of standing away from the body, so it holds a real pant shape rather than going shapeless. These are a cotton French terry with no lining, so what you see is the one layer against your skin.
How do you wear side-stripe pants without looking like you are headed to the gym?
Put something structured on top and something that is not a sneaker on your feet. A stripe down the leg reads as athletic mostly because of the company it usually keeps, so a blazer, a button-down or a fitted knit pulls the outfit the other way, and a loafer, a mule or a low boot finishes the job. Keep the top half tucked or cropped so your waistline still shows, since a long loose top over an elastic waist is what tips anything into loungewear. The contrast trim on these runs down the side seam in a black and cream colorway, quieter than a bright athletic stripe, so it takes to that treatment easily.
How do these pants fasten, and what is the leg shape?
There is no zipper and no button. An elastic waistband with a drawstring running through it does all the work, so you set the waist where you want it and it stays there. That is worth knowing on a straight-leg cut like this one, because the leg falls straight from hip to hem with no cuff or elastic at the ankle holding it in place, which leaves the drawstring as the only spot where the fit is adjustable. A contrast trim runs down each side seam, and they come in small, medium and large.
