Questions about this piece
How do you wear a chain belt?
Over your clothes, not through belt loops. A chain belt sits on the outside of a dress, a sweater or an untucked shirt, where it breaks up a long run of fabric and marks a waist the garment does not give you on its own. Wear it high at your natural waist to shorten the top half, or lower on the hips over something loose. The 20 inches of extension chain on this one is what lets you move between those two positions.
Will a metal chain belt snag your clothes?
It can, and the fabric decides more than the belt does. Open-weave knits, loose sweaters and anything with a raised thread are what catch on links; smooth wovens, denim and jersey generally do not. If you are putting a chain over a delicate knit, set it loosely rather than cinched, since tension is what pulls a link into a loop of yarn. This one is 100% alloy with a chip stone fish design, so run your fingers along the links before the first wear and feel for anything rough.
How long is this chain belt?
Twenty-eight inches of chain with a 20-inch extension, so it can close anywhere up to about 48 inches. That spread is the useful part: at its shortest it sits snug at a natural waist, and let out, it drops onto the hips over a dress or goes around a coat without you having to cinch anything. The chain itself is 100% alloy.
