Questions about this piece
Can jute or rope heels get wet?
Keep them dry if you can. Jute is a plant fiber spun into cord, and it drinks water - a soaked heel swells, takes a long time to dry, and can leave a water mark on the wrapping. Wiping off a splash right away is no problem; standing in a puddle is. The heel on these is jute-wrapped, so that's the part to protect, and if it does get soaked, let it dry away from direct heat, which is what turns the cord brittle.
Do mules stay on your feet when you walk?
Yes, though it changes how you walk. A mule has no back, so it stays on by friction under the straps and a slight grip from your toes - which means lifting your whole foot rather than letting the heel peel away first. Most people stop thinking about it after an afternoon. Wide straps hold better than one thin band, and these spread several cutout straps over the top of the foot.
Is there anything to adjust on these, or do they just slip on?
They slip on - no buckle, no ankle strap, nothing to tighten. That puts the whole job of holding your foot onto the cutout straps across the instep, so the size you choose matters more here than it would on a shoe you can cinch after the fact. Sizes 7, 8 and 9, all in the Coconut leather.
