Questions about this piece
Should you brush your hair wet or dry?
Dry, with a brush. Hair stretches when it is wet and snaps at far less tension than it would dry, so a bristle brush dragged through a wet head breaks strands instead of smoothing them. If you have to work through wet hair, use a wide-tooth comb and start at the ends, moving up a few inches at a time. Save the brush for dry hair, where it can lay the cuticle flat and actually add shine rather than causing damage.
How often should you clean a hairbrush?
Every week or two if you use it daily. Shed hair packs down between the bristles and traps oil, dust and whatever product you use, and the brush then puts all of that back into clean hair. Pull the hair out with the end of a comb, wash the bristle bed with a drop of shampoo in warm water, and let it dry bristles-down so water does not sit in the base. This one has a removable cleaner built in, which takes the fiddly part out of that first step.
Is this brush all boar bristle?
No, it is 40% boar bristle and 60% nylon, and the mix is the point. Pure boar is soft and short, which is why it polishes well but barely reaches the scalp on thick hair. The longer nylon pins part the hair and let the boar bristles get down to the root, where the oil they move actually sits. The bristles are anti-static and the handle is the coil shape, in tortoise. TELETIES makes the same brush in a mini if you want one for a bag.
