Questions about this piece
What makes a jacket a trucker jacket?
The front and the pockets, mostly. A trucker is the squared denim jacket Levi's has made since the 1960s: buttons instead of a zip, two flap pockets set high on the chest, and a boxy body that stops around the hip. The wash doesn't enter into it. This one is the '90s cut of that jacket, so the body is pitched wider and the shoulder seam sits out past your own, with the button front and the two chest flaps where you'd expect them.
How do you wear an oversized jacket without it swallowing you?
Let it be the only loose thing you have on. An oversized jacket reads as a choice when what's under it is close to the body and the leg below it is straight or slim, and as a mistake when everything is roomy at once. The sleeves are the other half of it: push the cuffs to the forearm so the length looks deliberate. This jacket is drafted roomy with the shoulder dropped, so the volume up top is already spoken for.
Is there room to layer under it?
Yes, and that is the cut rather than the size you take, which is why XS and S cover as much ground as they do here. The '90s profile is pitched wide through the body and the shoulder seam falls below your own shoulder, so a sweater goes underneath without the armhole binding or the back pulling when you reach forward. At 12 oz, the cotton denim is heavy enough to hold that boxy line instead of collapsing onto whatever you put under it.
